One Really Cool Weekend
Okay, so it was almost 100 degrees but, still in the double digits in Downtown Phoenix which is a bit odd for this time of year. So, by now some of you may have read that I am a bit of a baseball geek. I know that I am not the only one but I do spend a ton of time scoping out what is going on in and around Chase Field. This weekend was no exception.
D-Backs Staying Home for the Spring
Diamondbacks, who call Phoenix their regular season baseball home, are looking for a new location to hold their Spring Training. According to multiple sources, the management has narrowed the prospective locations to a few different places. Although all three of the locations have not been officially confirmed, one of which is a parcel of land on the Salt River Reservation. It is not news that Spring Training brings monumental amounts of tourism to the Valley of the Sun and the City of Scottsdale appears to be backing the D-Backs move to the reservation.
Beer For Dinner
Coach & Willies is hosting a Beer Dinner June 19 at 6:30pm. The four-course dinner will be followed by live music with Sweet Konundrum and special guests Tommy Doo at 9pm.
Skylounge Hosts Mayor’s Monthly Mixer
Join Mayor Phil Gordon on Friday, June 19 for the next Mayor’s Monthly Mixer at Skylounge, 132 E. Washington St. The mixer will be from 5:30 to 7:30pm followed by the Third Friday Concert Series at the Dowtown Civic Space Park.
Fourth ‘Movie Monday’ At Heard Museum This Monday
It’s almost Monday and that means another Movie Mondays event at the Heard Museum.
On Monday, June 22 at 1:30pm, the museum will be showing Oil on Ice, a 90-minute vivid, compelling and comprehensive documentary connecting the fate of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to decisions America makes about energy policy, transportation choices, and other seemingly unrelated matters. Caught in the balance are the culture and livelihood of the Gwich’in people and the migratory wildlife in this fragile ecosystem.

Like the soothing geeeetar pickin’ of some good folk? Downtown is about to chime with acoustics. Thursday, June 18 is the Phoenix Annual Summer Folk Festival presented by River Jones Music.

You see, the Chuseum, as I like to call it, is turning 1. Yes, it is a cranky little toddler and it needs some sweet, sweet sugar to put it in a coma-like euphoric state. It is bound to be a sticky and delicious affair.
