Today the Phoenix City Council unanimously elected District 4 Councilman Tom Simplot as vice mayor. Simplot will serve in the position until the end of the year.

“I appreciate the support of my colleagues and look forward to working with the entire Council over the course of the year as we address the economic challenges affecting us all,” says Simplot.

Simplot, who has been on the council since 2003, is a member of the City Council Seniors, Families and Youth Subcommittee along with the Transportation & Infrastructure Subcommittee and the Housing & Neighborhoods Subcommittee. Most recently, he chaired the Neighborhoods, Housing, Historic Preservation and Arts & Culture Subcommittee.

Currently, he serves as chairman of the METRO Board of Directors and is a member of the board of directors of a community-based social service agency, Valle del Sol. In addition, he serves as a member of the Federal Communications Commission’s Intergovernmental Advisory Committee.

In addition to his post on the City Council, he is president and CEO of the Arizona Multihousing Association.
