The 2009 Phoenix Pride Festival will sashay into Steele Indian School Park this Saturday giving activists from groups like Americans for Truth About Homosexuality plenty of opportunities to capture footage of scantily-clad revelers in a variety of suggestive situations, to be later edited into videos with captions like Could This Be Your Child’s Teacher? that will be distributed to righteously indignant church members.
Looks like the Civic Space is going to be a success, as hundreds of students, residents and curious visitors stopped by to celebrate the grand opening on April 16. There were giveaways, contests and a concert for the lucky attendees. See below for images.

A community cookout hosted by the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department begins at 11am, followed by the official opening ceremonies at 3pm. The celebration will end with a lighting of Janet Echelman’s “Her Secret is Patience” sculpture at 7:30pm. Improvements began Monday for the Downtown Phoenix Public Market’s permanent grocery store, which is expected to open in June.
The 4000 square-foot retail space at 14 E Pierce St will be open five days a week and will serve as downtown Phoenix’s first local foods grocery store.
CVS Pharmacy will open a drugstore in downtown Phoenix’s CityScape complex, company officials will announce Wednesday. It would be the first time since 1976 that a pharmacy stood in the downtown neighborhood south of the Interstate 10.
The planned 13,000-square-foot drugstore could open as early as June 2010 on the southwest corner of Jefferson Street and First Avenue, said Michael DeNitto, a CVS regional director.
