Senior Design Exhibit Opens May 1

Come celebrate the Senior Design Exhibit’s opening on May 1 from 7pm to 10pm, hosted by Arizona State University’s college of design students.

The Senior Design Exhibit is the culmination of a year-long research and design application process. Students are given the option to select a track of study. Those who join InnovationSpace partner with other disciplines to research, design and develop products that serve real societal needs. Those who pursue Visual Communication select current social issues and create dynamic visual campaigns to reach their individual goals.

Phoenix Convention Center First 100 Days

The opening of the North Building at the Phoenix Convention Center completed the four and a half year expansion project, which nearly tripled the size of the Convention Center to a total of 880,000 square feet of rentable meeting and exhibition space. The Convention Center celebrates numerous accomplishments during the first 100 days of operation since welcoming the first conventions to the newly expanded facility.

Vice Mayor To Host District 4 Breakfast Meeting

Vice Mayor Tom Simplot will host his monthly breakfast meeting at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, April 23, at HomeTown Buffet, 1501 W. Bethany Home Road. Representatives from the Phoenix City Clerk’s Office will discuss the Voting Center Proposal, which aims to increase voter participation by providing additional methods to vote in municipal elections.

Free Movie Night At Civic Space This Friday

Head over to the new Civic Space Park on Friday, April 24 at 7:30pm for a free movie night featuring The Dark Night.

The event is sponsored by Arizona State University students and is part of a larger safety initiative to encourage positive use of the brand-new park. Arrive early and you won’t need to bring your own snacks because free popcorn will be available on a limited basis. The movie will end around 10:30pm.

Metro Board OKs Ads To Help Increase Revenue

Metro passengers could be barraged with ads inside and outside the trains this fall as the transit agency tries to get through the grim economy with a new source of money.

The Metro board voted unanimously Wednesday to reverse its no-advertisement policy and adopted a program that would be the most aggressive among new Western light-rail systems.

First “Third Friday Concert Series” at Civic Space this Friday

Come celebrate Phoenix’s first “Third Friday Concert Series” on Friday, April 17 at the new Downtown Civic Space park. The free concert will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and will feature Turn Back, O Man and The Matthew Reveles Band.

Celebrate Civic Space’s Grand Opening Thursday

Join your neighbors from downtown Phoenix at the grand opening of the new Civic Space Park on Thursday, April 16.

A community cookout hosted by the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department begins at 11am, followed by the official opening ceremonies at 3pm. The celebration will end with a lighting of Janet Echelman’s “Her Secret is Patience” sculpture at 7:30pm. The full agenda of the events will be available at the park, printed on a limited supply of reusable souvenir shopping bags.

The high profile Arizona Center mixed-use development in downtown Phoenix filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Thursday, after its parent’s creditors balked at a debt-restructuring plan.

Public Market Improvements Begin

Improvements began Monday for the Downtown Phoenix Public Market’s permanent grocery store, which is expected to open in June.

The 4000 square-foot retail space at 14 E Pierce St will be open five days a week and will serve as downtown Phoenix’s first local foods grocery store.
