Wire*— The Root and Soul, a contemporary soul food concept, is to become the newest eatery at Desoto Central Market in Downtown Phoenix, serving delicious Southern cuisine to the community.
Chef Christian Buze, “Chef Buzz,” is opening the space, and he brings decades of family experience to the art of southern cooking – his cousin is Larry White, founder of LoLo’s Chicken and Waffles, and his grandmother is Elizabeth White of Mrs. White’s Golden Rule Café.
“It’s clearly a family recipe that Phoenix can’t get enough of, and we’re excited to bring the Root and Soul twist to its legacy,” Chef Buzz said.
Guests can expect signature, small-batch, gluten-free chicken and Belgian waffles, succulent collard greens, Food Network featured six-cheese macaroni, the “Big Catch Sandwich” – an 8-ounce catfish sandwich loaded with shrimp and spicy aioli, and much more.
Chef Buzz perfected the art of soul food as the owner of Buzznbeez food truck, and the opening of the brick-and-mortar Root and Soul is the natural progression.
“We’re so excited to welcome The Root and Soul into the food hall, and we can’t wait to see Buzz in action,” said Shawn Connelly, Managing Partner of DeSoto Central Market.
Chef Buzz’s eatery will take up the space RADish previously occupied, with RADish moving some of their product into ProVisionary. The Root and Soul will soft open on Wednesday, April 25 with a grand opening that will take place later with live music and more.
Ed note: the opening date was originally published as April 24.
