Free Art Workshops for the Community at the Phoenix Center for the Arts Open House August 20, 2016
Phoenix Center for the Arts invites the community to a fun-filled day of free art workshops for the whole family. Phoenix Center for the Arts’ annual Open House event takes place Saturday, August 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Phoenix Center for the Arts downtown campus, 1202 N. Third Street, Phoenix, AZ 85004.
Instructors will offer free, 20-minute workshops in their respective departments, including: dance, theater, mosaics, glass, creative writing, photography, and jewelry making. Those interested in participating can sign up for one or multiple sessions upon arrival. Visitors will also have the unique opportunity to observe regular classes in session such as ceramics, painting, dance, and guitar. Phoenix Center for the Arts offers more than 700 art classes for youth and adults year round. The Center’s newest campus, Thunderbird Arts Center, which opened in April of 2016, provides similar opportunities to the North Phoenix area.
“The Open House really gives folks a chance to see who we are and what we do,” says Director Joseph Benesh. “There’s an incredible sense of community at the Center. The connection our students are able to find, to the arts, to each other, and to the City, is a much-needed and often-missing quality in our over-worked, siloed worlds.”
Resident organization, Radio Phoenix, will lead tours of their studio and allow participants the chance to send live radio greetings. Complimentary snacks and refreshments will be provided.
All are welcome to visit the Center for this day of community fun and creativity!
