The Burton Barr Central Library helped usher in the new season today at their annual Summer Solstice Celebration. The event marks the exact moment of the solstice through an architectural spectacle of light and shadow, deliberately incorporated into the building design by noted architect Will Bruder. Bruder, who participated in the event, noted that “light defines this place in every way” and explained that this phenomenon “ties us to the universe.”
Experiencing the summer solstice in this unique way provided an illuminating moment for those on hand. Attendee Johnny Martinez was awestruck by the event: “It makes you question your mortality. It makes you realize what a small blip you are on the timeline of humanity.”
