Phoenix Food Day is a celebration of healthy, affordable and sustainable food. The event aims to connect the community and inspire one another to live healthy lifestyles through gardening and sustainability, educational workshops, healthy cooking and more.”

When: Thursday, October 22, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: Cesar Chavez Plaza, 251 W. Washington St.

What: Health-focused workshops and activities for all ages:

  • Workshops: Guest speakers from a range of backgrounds and expertise will present quick, informative 20 minute presentations on topics including aquaponics, urban farming, nutrition, the GoodFoodFinder resource, edible landscaping, and ending hunger. Workshops run from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. in the Phoenix City Council Chambers.
  • Food Day Cafe: The outdoor Food Day Cafe will feature Devour Phoenix local restaurants with food samples, along with information on creating a variety of ethnic foods that are healthy, easy, affordable.  Entry into the Cafe is free and visitors can purchase $1 food tickets to use for samples.  
  • Kids Zone: A central location for fun and education for kids and people of all ages. Find games like skee ball and fruit/veggie toss, along with fitness activities, gardening, composting with worms, and more. 
  • FitPHX Apple Crunch: At noon, the FitPHX program will host the third annual “Apple Crunch” in an attempt to set a record for the most participants in an apple-crunching event in downtown Phoenix. Apples will be provided by Fresh Express and BlueCross/BlueShield of Arizona.

Join the Phoenix Community Alliance Health and Bioscience Committee for a happy hour focusing on how The General Plan (Prop 100,) Reinvent Phoenix, Complete Street and Transit District Overlay make our city a healthier place to live.

Guest Speakers include Alan Stephenson, Director of the City of Phoenix Department of Planning and Development and Joshua Bednarek, Principal Planner with the City of Phoenix Department of Planning and Development.
