Artists of the Future Display Unique Talents at Heard Museum Guild American Indian Student Art Show & Sale March 28-30
Members only sneak-preview sale and auction on March 27
The creative works of many talented young American Indian artists in grades 7-12 will debut their handcrafted treasures for the first time this coming Saturday, Sunday and Monday, March 28-30.
Visitors to the Heard Museum Guild American Indian Student Art Show & Sale will be able to view and purchase more than 700 unique pieces crafted by students from both the United States and Canada in the museum’s Lincoln Gallery and Monte Vista Room, 2301 N. Central Ave., Phoenix.
- Heard Museum members have the opportunity to attend a sneak preview and silent auction sale on Friday, March 27. The preview will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the auction and sale from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
- The public is invited to attend on Saturday, March 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, March 29, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Monday, March 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to the show and sale is free; museum admission is additional.
A panel of esteemed judges will choose spectacular pieces in a juried competition in which winners will receive cash prizes and ribbons. Students will price their own artwork and will be given the majority of the proceeds for their sales.
Over its history, this annual event has returned more than $300,000 to the students for the sale of their art, and over $100,000 in scholarships and grants to participating students’ art and teachers. Scholarship and grant money is raised by the sale of student art note cards, which feature the art of young, talented student artists, and are also available at the Heard Museum Shop.
The show features a vast array of traditional and fine art — katsina dolls, pottery, baskets, jewelry, beadwork, weavings, paintings and sculpture — as well as unique, contemporary pieces in creative media.
