Here’s a show that’s sure to make you “LOL.”
Arizona Theatre Company presents the world premiere of Sex and the Second City, Version 2.0, a production from the improv-based sketch comedy empire The Second City about finding love in the digital age.
The show made its debut Thursday at the Herberger Theater Center, where it can be seen through March 20 before heading out on its national tour.

The 1.0 version of the show, which debuted in 2006, was a musical battle of the sexes about a couple facing problems, breaking up and making up.
“At that point, Facebook wasn’t around,” Second City Vice President Kelly Leonard tells ATC. “That has become such a rich source of comedy for us with a whole different twist and allows us to do some interesting improvisational moments with the audience, which will be part of Version 2.0.”
Director B.J. Jones tells ATC’s Literary Manager Jenny Bazzell that the script was created based on successful improvs from The Second City’s archives, but that it will also be mixed with new actors’ input and interaction with the audience.
“These actors are thoroughbreds and when they get loose, who the heck knows what will develop,” he says. “We have a great script to start with; inspiration will take over and the piece will fly.”
Jones adds that he is thrilled to be working with the legendary troupe, which has trained celebrities such as Tina Fey, Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert.
“The Second City is such an iconic institution, and one of the bedrocks of Chicago theater,” he says. “It’s a dream come true for me.”
Tickets range from $30 to $64.
