Don’t worry nothing scary is coming. Unless you’re scared of rocking out.
Oh No Oh My, Pomegranates and Phoenix-based St. Ranger are playing The Trunk Space tonight and will leave behind tired feet and sweaty bodies.
The pop-indie bands Oh No Oh My and Pomegranates have been rising onto the radar of music magazines with the release of their new albums.
Oh No Oh My is a quartet from Austin, TX. Greg Barkley, Joel Calvin, Daniel Hoxmeier and Tim Regan formed the band in 2004. If you’re wondering what they sound like, just think Mumford and Sons meets Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros.
After gaining a name in their home state, the band toured with Gnarls Barkley and The Flaming Lips and played Lollapalooza and South by Southwest.
They released their debut self-titled album in 2006 and are getting ready to release their new album on January 11, 2011. (1/11/11… hmm, I wonder if that was on purpose.)
Pomegranates is a four-piece band from Cincinnati. Joey Cook, Issac Karns, Jacob Merritt and Daniel Lyons came together in 2006, but blew up last year with their concept sophomore album, Everyone, Come Outside!
They’ve played with Spoon and Peter Bjorn and John, which didn’t hurt their reputation. The band was even on SPIN’s 2010 Mix Tape. They have a slight psychedelic rock feel that meets Cook’s haunting, high-pitched vocals. Their song “50’s” is definitely one to catch on tonight’s set list.
The show will be filled with fun, dancey tunes. Catch these bands while they’re still playing intimate spaces! Doors are at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door.
The Trunk Space is located at 1506 Grand Ave.
