(ed note-Christina is a hopeful print journalism major, makes her bed BEFORE she goes to sleep and is very particular about the apostrophe in her last name)
I’m a Phoenix native, an aspiring journalist, a Sun Devil and a caffeine addict. I am a freshman at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University where I am studying, well, journalism. I live on campus in the Taylor Place dorms.
There is a Starbucks one story below me where I often order a tall Light Blended Mocha with a pump of peppermint syrup, and the Cronkite School is my next door neighbor. If that doesn’t sound convenient enough, this certainly will. Since my parents live about 25 minutes away from me, my mom regularly brings me groceries and laundry money, and takes me out to lunch. It sounds like I’ve got it made but, believe it or not, I’ve got a lot on my plate. I spend a large portion of my time studying and consider school a top priority. I am a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and the Cronkite Village Residential College. I was also a member of the Fashion Journalism Club and I played intramural soccer.
Of course I can’t forget that I write for the Downtown Phoenix Journal, because of which I am awake at 1am writing this biography. It’s a good thing I have an ice cold, caffeine-infused Diet Pepsi by my side. Although the education I am getting in my classes is very valuable to me, the DPJ gives me the experience I want and need to become a journalist.
I have lived in Phoenix my entire life but never in the city. When I first found out that the Cronkite School was moving from Tempe to downtown Phoenix, I was afraid I would be isolated from the university and that there would be nothing for me to do when I wasn’t in class. This was true, at first. But after living in the heart of downtown Phoenix for over eight months, I treasure everything that makes this city unique. I’m proud to be able to watch it grow and write about it for the DPJ. When I have free time, I enjoy playing soccer, traveling, attending concerts, taking pictures, going out to eat, watching movies, and reading fiction novels.
