Several prominent Phoenicians have landed nominations for the 2009 Governor’s Arts Awards, to be held Tuesday, April 14 at the Arizona Biltmore Resort. This year, key downtowners Kimber Lanning and Kyle Jordre are being nominated for their contributions, along with the Artlink organization responsible for Art Detour and First Fridays artwalk. Lanning is the Director of Local First Arizona and the head honcho at Stinkweeds and Modified Arts. Jordre’s art studio on Grand Ave. has become a downtown staple.

“I’m honored to be included with such a wonderful group of people,” Lanning said. “The recognition for my contributions to this community is deeply appreciated!”

Other downtown area establishments such as Young Arts Arizona and Rosie’s House will also be recognized.

Presented annually by the office of the governor, the Arizona Commission on the Arts and Arizona Citizens for the Arts, the awards highlight important artists, businesses, citizens and communities that have contributed to Arizona art.
