Urban Affair, a marketing and promotions company for downtown Phoenix, has announced the acquisition of the Downtown Phoenix Journal The redesigned website invites residents to Explore Your Core, with a friendly insider’s view of downtown events, restaurants, cultural hot spots, and profiles of people on the City scene.
Originally launched as a blog site in 2006, the Downtown Phoenix Journal (DPJ) is one of the only websites to aggregate news and information from the greater downtown area and man on the street blog posts.
“The DPJ is a natural fit for our mission,” Urban Affair Founder Catrina Knoebl said.“Urban Affair promotes our downtown through community and business partnerships and the Journal has evolved into the go-to outlet for residents seeking lifestyle information.Together, we create a one-stop online portal for all things Downtown Phoenix.”
“We will promote Phoenix’s urban living movement – and those who make it move,” Knoebl added.“For every good story there is a group or individual making it happen.Where would Downtown Phoenix be without the contributions of the Phoenix Public Market, Local First Arizona, the Roosevelt Neighborhood and the City of Phoenix itself?”
The acquisition was made in partnership with Samuel I. Richard, ASU Public Programs student and community advocate.Richard will act as DPJ’s Editor-in-Chief.
“It’s a dream of mine to contribute something like this to the downtown community,” Richard said. “Additionally, the site redesign allows us to expand the current information and offer more resources and interactivity than ever before to help visitors engage with Downtown.”
In the over two years since its original launch, the DPJ has become a primary resource for downtown information, with a focus on community bloggers providing insight into various aspects of downtown.Created by real estate agent Lyle Plocher, of Urban Connection Realty, the site presented information that was useful and relevant.
“There was a void that needed to be filled,” said Plocher. “Then, with the site’s success, what started as a side project became almost a full time job.I know that it will be in good hands moving forward.”
