“Style is a way of saying who you are without having to speak.”
Rachel Zoe/Fashionista

While fashion magazines are preparing their Fall Fashion previews and sharing what’s #trending from the runway (btw…watch for Victorian Grunge, Clashing Prints and Menswear for Women), Phoenicians are still living what feels like an endless summer.

A recent Saturday night took me to the DeSoto Central Market, searching for dinner, where I stumbled upon Valerie Denison, a registered nurse from North Phoenix, as she was sharing a glass of wine with a friend. Of course, I interrupted and had to ask…

What are you wearing?

Valerie caught my eye with her one-piece, strapless pants suit (some call them palazzo pants – I call them fabulous), “This is from Cache. I’m curvy and like things to fit my body, so things need to fit right.” Her simple stud earrings, long gold and black necklace, and small black sequined clutch were all evidence of Valerie’s elegant evening style. (I literally tore a picture of this outfit out of an InStyle magazine that morning while sitting in my hair stylists chair! Shhh…don’t tell my stylist I’m tearing up her magazines).

Favorite places to shop?

Growing up in Peoria, Valerie is no stranger to endless summers and says she finds fun and trendy items at Buffalo Exchange, and unique custom accessories at various Phoenix farmers markets and local boutiques.

If you could raid one style icon’s closet, who would it be?

Giuliana Rancic (celebrity subject matter expert, Fashion Police co-host and host of multiple shows on E!) because “she’s kind of classic with a little bit of edge”.

What about living in PHX influences your style?

“I’m mostly about cost and fit. I’m curvy and like things to fit my body, so things need to fit right. I want to look and feel good in my clothes.”

Well played, Valerie…well played.
