The Arizona Diamondbacks have not had much of a winning season, but the team has shown signs of smart and aggressive play as of late. In the team’s extra-inning loss against the San Francisco Giants, Gerrardo Parra made an exciting diving catch to keep runners from scoring that sent the game into the bottom of the ninth. Adam LaRoche is ranked among the top 10 players for RBI, Mark Reynolds is fourth in homers, Kelly Johnson is among the top 10 in doubles and Stephen Drew is currently second in triples. Despite the power that the team has shown, it all comes back to the pitching. Daniel Hudson has been an excellent addition to the team as he continues to do well since joining the team.

With the interim tag still on Kirk Gibson’s managerial title, there are a couple things for sure, and they are that he is coaching with smarts as well as heart. This past week began with a win against the Houston Astros, followed by a four-game skid with some close losses. The D-backs won their final game against the Giants as they wrapped up their home stand. This week, the Diamondbacks head to Colorado in an effort to stifle the Rockies’ playoff chances. Following the team’s trip to Colorado, the D-Backs will head to Cincinnati to face the Reds, who are currently in first place in the National League Central.
