Monday marks the return of Major League Baseball to downtown Phoenix with the Arizona Diamondbacks opening the 2009 season against the Colorado Rockies.
Opening Day and the subsequent 81 home games at Chase Field are expected to give a much needed economic boost to bars and restaurants surrounding the stadium.
“It’s great to have the team back,” said A.J. Sulka, managing partner of Majerle’s Sports Grill. “The home opener is always a big day for us, so it’s exciting.”
Those who work at nearby businesses are also hoping to benefit from the addition of light rail to the downtown landscape, making it easier than ever for fans to get to and from the stadium.
